How To Make A Period Emergency Kit

Menstruators that have had their periods for years can understand that sometimes, we’re just not prepared for our period. We bleed into our favorite underwear, we bleed onto our sheets, and a vacation or two have been altered due to our period. Preparedness is the best way to own your period - let’s make a period emergency kit!

Period Products

First things first… we have to have some sort of period product in our period emergency kit. Our favorite is the Sunny Cup + Applicator (shameless plug, we know). With an unexpected period, our Sunny Applicator that works like a tampon can easily insert our Sunny Cup. You can wear our cup for up to 12 hours and reuse it for up to a year! We also provide a reusable carrying pouch that you can conveniently throw into your period emergency kit.

We also suggest throwing in some eco-friendly panty liners if your period is light, or you can’t quickly get somewhere to boil your Sunny Cup before your period. Our favorites are from Viv, which are made of soft bamboo fiber, making them completely biodegradable!

Extra Underwear

Accidents happen (and they’re usually in your favorite underwear). Leakages also happen ALL the time during our periods! Be sure to keep a spare pair of undies in your period emergency kit to be able to quickly change.

If you want a win-win situation, try out period underwear! Our favorite brand is Monthly, an inclusive period underwear brand that’s currently shipping out pre-orders!

Pain Relievers

Cramps, headaches, back pain - we just can’t seem to get away from them! When your period comes, not only do you have to prepare to catch our flow, you have to make yourself comfortable as well. Make sure to have pain relieving meds like Tylenol, Advil, or Midol in your period emergency kit. If you want a more holistic approach, try a heating patch or bag. Our favorite on-the-go heating pads are Somedays Heatpads, which are made with flaxseed and customizable!

We Get Hungry Too

Along with the classic (and maybe painful) period symptoms, you also may have cravings during our period. It’s important to replenish our bodies during menstruation as it's hard work. The best snacks to nurture your body are nuts, dried fruits, or dark chocolate. Make sure to keep some of these snacks in your emergency period kit!

How to Hold All Of It?

If you need a cute bag to hold all of your contents of your period emergency kit, check out our reusable and eco-friendly tote bags that encourage #PowerToThePeriod.
