Why You Should Switch to The Sunny Cup + Applicator

While here at Sunny, it’s obvious that we will scream and shout off the rooftops that the Sunny Cup is amazing. It’s a dream that we’ve worked on now for nearly 6 years (crazy, right?!) that is finally coming to fruition. We’ve shipped out nearly 5,000 Sunny Cups + Applicators, have thousands more set ready to ship, and are crossing off bucket list items for this small business and team of seven. With so many new people coming to our page, we wanted to notify (or remind) you the reason why the Sunny Cup is different from other cups!

It Comes With a Reusable Applicator

This first reason is kind of a no-brainer. The Sunny Cup comes with the Sunny Applicator, a reusable applicator that inserts our Sunny Cup like a tampon! If you’re curious about menstrual cups, chances are you know that they are more earth-friendly than tampons. They collect blood for up to 12 hours at a time, are reusable, and can last up to a year or more! The only thing is, menstrual cups may not be as convenient as tampons. The insertion process can be intimidating, the seal may not always pop open and form inside your vaginal canal, and it can take a lot of trial and error to figure them out. With the Sunny Cup + Applicator, you have all of the benefits of a menstrual cup, and the convenience of a tampon.

Our applicator is shaped, functions, and inserts like a tampon. The Sunny Cup folds super thin to glide into our applicator, where you can then insert the green tip portion of our applicator inside of your vagina, push the barrel through, and Ta-Da! The Sunny Cup is placed inside of your vagina. The applicator can help our cup pop open to form an immediate seal as well, but it’s always smart to double-check and ensure there’s no leaks!

It’s Incredibly Flexible

The Sunny Cup itself has a really unique shape compared to other cups! Other menstrual cups are usually the same thickness all throughout. Ours has thin-walled panels, and a thick and angled rim to ensure it can fold easily on itself to insert into the Sunny Applicator. The rim is designed so that the cup folds as thin as a tampon and can easily pop open once it’s pushed through our applicator. Some Sunny veterans who have used our Sunny Cup + Applicator say that they can actually feel the Sunny Cup pop open! 

Since the body of the cup is thin, it also easily moves with your body much more comfortably. You may notice that it can feel “crushed” once it’s inside, but no fear! As long as your rim is sealed, your cup will expand as it’s filled with blood.

It’s Made of Body Safe Material

Another perk of our Sunny Cup + Applicator is that it’s made of high-quality, body-safe material! The cup itself is made of medical grade silicone, a lubricious finish (to easily insert and remove) and non-toxic colorant. Our Applicator doesn’t lack safety, either! It’s made of medical grade nylon, Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), polypropylene, a body safe lubricious finish, and non-toxic colorant. Both are made without BPA, PFAS, or latex.

It’s BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and Female Founded

The last reason why the Sunny Cup + Applicator is different from other reusable period cups on the market, is because we are a female, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ founded small business! Our co-founder Cindy Belardo (she/her) is multicultural, having Asian, Indigenous, and Latino roots. Our other co-founder Drew Jarvis (she/her), is a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Many of the Sunny staff also come from different cultural backgrounds and identities such as queer, Muslim, POC, and so much more. We’re only a strong team of seven, who're working together to create a revolutionary period product and cultivate an incredible online community, all while facing the challenges and stigmas of a female-focused space. With our shared experiences as a team, we are passionate about advocacy and inclusivity as a brand!
