Celebrate and Support Juneteenth with SUNNY!

Juneteenth is an important day to commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S. June 19th marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and read out the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing approximately 250,000 enslaved people over 2 years after the original proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln.
President Biden signed Juneteenth into a national holiday in 2021, and every year, there are some fun, meaningful, and important ways to celebrate!
Events:
- Denver, Colorado hosts its Juneteenth Music Festival, registering 50k participants annually!
- For 3 days in Washington DC Pharrell Williams will host his Something in the Water Festival featuring SZA, Anderson Paak, and more!
- In NYC, the Tribeca Film Festival is hosting its Juneteenth Program to celebrate “Black stories and uplift the voices of Black storytellers.”
- The National Museum of African American History and Culture is hosting events that celebrate the lives of African American ancestors and their civic contributions toward a more equitable future.
Organizations to support!
Black Women for Wellness is commitment to the health and well-being of Black women and girls through health education, empowerment, and advocacy.
Sacred Roots seeks to center people of color in their pursuit of shared healing and liberation. They hope to cultivate and grow their cultural healing practices and libreratory learning.
Flo Code is the leading support organization in the Texas community that donates menstrual products to nonprofits, shelters, schools, and natural disaster victims. At FloCode they work to advance the common good by focusing on health, education, and social injustices in their community.
