Roe v. Wade Might Get Overturned: What does this mean for reproductive rights?

On May 2, 2022, at 8:30pm, Politico obtained and released a leaked draft that states the Supreme Court held a preliminary vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, a 1973 legal case that guaranteed women the right to abortion under the U.S. Constitution. In the past few decades, abortion has become a hot-button political issue instead of a private and deeply personal decision between a woman and her doctor.

Today, 59% of U.S. adults say abortion should be legal in all or most cases.

Overturning Roe v. Wade would have a major ripple effect throughout the country, with 24 states expected to ban aboriton in most cases within the year. This will lead to unsafe abortion practices for people with reproductive systems. Abortions will still happen with our without the ban. This only restricts access to safe abortions.

One thing that is important to remember is that abortions are still legal at this time. Here are some resources to learn more about this issue and to help however you can:

We here at Sunny believe that access to abortion is a human right. Sunny is donating a portion of our proceeds to organizations that are fighting to keep access to safe abortions legal.
